The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment for computer programmers will rise by 21% between 2018-2028. Today, nearly 1.5 million people in the United States make their living as software developers. According to Stickily, Java was the most popular programming language in 2019, so as a programmer, you’d be likely to encounter it sometime in your career. If you’d like to improve your skills as a Java programmer, Bright Star Institute offers an intensive, 2-course certificate program to provide training on Java fundamentals as well as more advanced topics like Ajax and Spring/Hibernate frameworks.
Having the right combination of knowledge and experience can open doors for you and provide you with the skill sets employers are looking for. Our on-demand approach to teaching and learning allows you to complete each course on your own schedule. This flexible approach means that you can take as much or as little time as you need to master each course objective.
Our professionally designed courses combine the instructional methods that appeal most to students and provide the best opportunity to learn and understand the material. As an enrolled student, you’ll have access to videos, hands-on exercises and one-on-one facilitated instruction. In addition, students have access to dedicated lab environments, so you have everything you need to succeed.
After completing this coursework, students will be prepared to seek entry-level employment as a Java programmer. Entry-level salaries vary by region, but currently, the median salary for an entry-level Java programmer is about $60,000, not including benefits and bonuses. Java programming skills are both valuable and in high demand. Senior Java Developers – those with 8-10 years of experience can expect to make about twice as much as entry-level programmers.
Our curriculum introduces students to common programming frameworks, programming techniques and programming fundamentals. Following completion, students can use these as a basis to build programming skills that are in high demand.
Bright Star Institute is committed to helping students make the most of their learning opportunities. Many students who enroll already have some programming experience, but experience isn’t necessary to complete the courses successfully. Students who have no prior programming experience may attend a Bright Star Institute introductory course, Learning to Program with Java at no additional cost when they enroll in the Java Programmer certificate program.
During the certificate program, students will learn the fundamentals of Java programming, including block structures and proper syntax. The curriculum also covers basic programming functions; TCP-IP-based client-server programming; multi-threaded programming; Java servlets; and platform-independent programming.
In addition, students will learn to use the Spring application framework and the Hibernate object-relational mapping tool. These two common frameworks will provide students with a structured approach to application and relational database programming. It will also help students understand how to use and access other popular frameworks they’re likely to encounter as a working Java programmer.
The 2-course package also introduces students to RESTful and SOAP Web services. Representational State Transfer (REST) is a standard architectural approach for building Java-based network applications. Similarly, SOAP is an XML-based protocol that provides HTTP access to Web services.
Enrolled students can also choose to work in many common Integrated Development Environments (IDE). This allows students to both personalize their learning experience and familiarize themselves with the most popular IDEs in use today. The Eclipse IDE is used by default in Bright Star’s Java training since it’s the most popular Java IDE, but if you prefer to use a different development environment tool, you may use the IDE of your choice.
